Plain Butter Icing
|Butter/Margarine||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Sifted icing sugar||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Vanilla extract||1 Teaspoon|
|Icing sugar||2 Cup (32 tbs), sifted|
Cream butter or margarine until very fluffy.
Add salt and, very gradually, about 1/2 cup sugar, continuing to cream.
Add remaining sugar alternately with cream, beating after each addition.
When mixture is smooth, add vanilla.
Spread on 8-inch square cake or over top and sides of 2 8-inch layers.
