Crumb-Butter Topping

  Fine dry bread crumbs 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Butter/Margarine 13⁄100 Pound, melted (1/4 Cup)
  Minced parsley/Chives / onion 2 Tablespoon
  Shredded cheese 2 Tablespoon
  Hard-cooked egg 2 Tablespoon, sieved or chopped

Either buy bread crumbs or prepare them this way: With a rolling pin, roll crisp dry bread slices between sheets of waxed paper or in a plastic bag until fine. Or crush and whirl the dried bread in the blender to make fine crumbs.
Mix crumbs with melted butter.
If you want to brown them, spread on a shallow baking pan and put in a 300° oven.
Stir often for 10 minutes, or until browned.
Add your choice of seasonings.
