Mix the sugar and milk in a pan and bring to the boil, stirring until dissolved.
Boil gently until it reaches the soft ball stage.
Add the coconut and colour to taste or leave white.
Pour into a shallow greased tin, mark in squares, and leave to set.
If desired the mixture may be divided in two after the coconut has been added.
Pour one half into a tin, colour the other pink, and pour on top of the first lot to make two layers.
