Betty's Homestyle Hot Dogs

Betty demonstrates how to make Homestyle Hot Dogs. These are great with Sauerkraut Salad!

Ingredients

Onion 1/2 , finely chopped
Olive oil 1 Tablespoon
Spicy ketchup 11 Ounce
Sweet pickle relish 2 Tablespoon
Sugar 1 Tablespoon
White vinegar 1 Tablespoon
Salt 1/4 Teaspoon
Ground black pepper 1/4 Teaspoon
Hot dog 8 , uncooked
For toasting bun
Hot dog buns 8 , opened and toasted on flat side with olive oil
Olive oil 1 Teaspoon

Directions

MAKING

1. In a medium-sized skillet, saute chopped onion in olive oil over low flame until softened, but not brown.

2. Add ketchup, pickle relish, sugar, vinegar, salt, and pepper. Stir well.

3. Score the hot dogs at about every 3/4-inch diagonally, about half-way through and place them into the skillet. Simmer over low heat for about 10 minutes or until hot dogs are heated through.

4. When hot, place hot dogs in toasted buns, ladling desired amount of sauce on top of each one.

 

SERVING

5. Serve immediately with sauerkraut salad.
