So I had some left over ham and decided to do a split pea and ham soup.
This dish is simple to make with limited ingredients.

Diced celery | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Diced onion | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Garlic cloves | 4 , chopped finely | |
Cooked ham | 2 Cup (32 tbs) , diced | |
Chicken stock | 1 Quart | |
Split peas | 1 Pound , cleaned | |
Butter | 1 Tablespoon | |
Salt | 1 Pinch | |
Freshly ground black pepper | To Taste | |
Ham bone | 1 | |
Bay leaf | 1 |
MAKING
1. Place a soup pot on medium low heat, and melt butter.
2. Add in all the vegetables, and stir in salt and pepper.
3. Let it cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until the onion gets translucent.
4. Add the bay leaf, ham, peas, ham bone and chicken stock, and let it simmer on medium low for 1 to 1 ½ hour or until the peas break down.
5. Taste the soup and adjust the seasoning, if needed.
SERVING
6. After 1 ½ hour remove the ham bone and serve hot as desired.
