Lightly brown ham in butter in skillet.
Bring water and sugar to boil in saucepan, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
Add 3/4 cup cranberries and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes.
Add orange rind and seasonings.
Combine ham and cranberry mixture and pour into baking dish.
Bake, uncovered, in preheated moderate oven (350°F.) for about 20 minutes.
Add remaining 1/2 cup cranberries; bake 10 to 15 minutes longer.
