Ham And Mushroom Braid

Ingredients
  Onion 1 Small, peeled and chopped
  Shortening/Drippings 2 Tablespoon
  Chopped mushrooms 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Diced cooked ham 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Fresh breadcrumbs 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Dry mustard 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Worcestershire sauce 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Egg 1 , beaten
  Milk/Egg wash 2 Tablespoon
  Salt To Taste
  Pepper To Taste
Directions

For the filling lightly fry the onion in the shortening or drippings for 1-2 minutes.
Add the mushrooms and ham and fry until the onion is soft but not colored.
Remove from the heat and add the breadcrumbs, seasonings and sauce and bind with the beaten egg.
Leave to cool before using.
For the finish brush the surface of the braid before baking with milk or egg wash.
Note Wholewheat and wheatmeal doughs are also excellent in this recipe.
