Koulourakia

This koulourakia recipe is a greek cookie like recipe traditionally baked and served as a dessert during easter. Flavored with anise and baked with flour, sugar, butter, eggs and cream, the koulourakia are often shaped by twisting the dough.
Ingredients
  All purpose flour 3 Cup (48 tbs), sifted
  Baking powder 2 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Unsalted butter 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Anise flavoring 1 Teaspoon
  Sugar 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Egg 1
  Whipping cream 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Egg yolk 1 , beaten (For Brushing)
Directions

Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
Cream butter with anise flavoring until fluffy.
Add sugar and beat thoroughly.
Add egg and beat well.
Pour in whipping cream; mix thoroughly.
Stir in flour mixture.
Knead dough on a floured board until shiny.
Cover and refrigerate 2 hours.
Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before rolling and baking.
Break off a small amount of dough and roll on a board to form a strip 5 to 6 inches long.
Shape into a ring by joining the ends, or make into a snail shape by winding up the strip.
Place on a greased cookie sheet.
Brush with egg yolk.
Bake at 350°F 20 to 25 minutes, or until done.
