Greek Meat Sauce

Ingredients
  Onions 6 Large, finely chopped
  Butter/Margarine 1⁄4 Pound (1/2 Cup)
  Lean ground beef 6 Pound
  Garlic 3 Clove (15 gm), minced or pressed
  Cinnamon stick 2
  Whole mixed pickling spices 1 Tablespoon
  Tomato paste 36 Ounce (6 Cans, 6 Ounce Each)
  Salt 2 Tablespoon
  Freshly ground pepper To Taste
  Water 1 Quart
Directions

In a wide frying pan, cook onions in 4 tablespoons of the butter over medium-high heat until limp; transfer to a Dutch oven or 8-quart pan.
In the frying pan, brown meat in 4 portions, using 1 tablespoon of the butter, as needed, for each portion; add meat to onions.
Place garlic, cinnamon sticks, and pickling spices in a cheesecloth bag.
Add to meat and onion mixture along with tomato paste, salt, pepper to taste, and water.
Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 3 hours or until flavors are blended and sauce has thickened.
