1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease baking pans with butter and set aside.
2. In a large bowl, stir together flour, ground ginger and baking soda.
3. Add in the butter, egg, brown sugar and golden syrup. Mix well to make dough.
4. Place the dough over the floured surface and roll with rolling pin. Cut with gingerbread men cutter.
5. Place over the prepared baking dish and bake in oven for 10 minutes.
6. Decorate the gingerbread with colored icing.
