|Soft butter/Margarine||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Sugar||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Molasses||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|All purpose flour||2 1⁄2 Cup (40 tbs), sifted|
|Baking soda||1 1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Ground cinnamon||1 Teaspoon|
|Ground ginger||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Ground cloves||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Hot water||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
Cream butter and sugar until light.
Beat in egg and molasses.
Add sifted dry ingredients and beat until smooth.
Blend in hot water.
Pour into greased pan (13 x 9 x 2 inches), and bake in preheated moderate oven (325°F.) for about 35 minutes.
Serve warm with butter, if desired.
