Ingredients
  Sifted whole wheat pastry flour 2 1⁄3 Cup (37.33 tbs)
  Baking powder 1 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Baking soda 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Ground ginger 1 Teaspoon
  Ground cinnamon 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Grated nutmeg 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Ground allspice 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Butter 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), softened
  Brown sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Eggs 2
  Unsulphured molasses 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Hot water 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
2. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
3. Blend together the baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and butter. Stir in the sugar. Beat in the eggs. Stir in the molasses and add the hot water alternately with the flour mixture. Pour into well-buttered 9-inch pan and bake for 45 minutes.
