Early American Ginger Cut-Outs

Ingredients
  All purpose flour 2 3⁄4 Cup (44 tbs)
  Soda 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Ground ginger 1 Teaspoon
  Ground cinnamon 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Ground cloves 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Butter/Margarine 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Firmly packed brown sugar 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Dark molasses 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Egg beater 1
  Hot water 1 Teaspoon
  Vinegar 1 Teaspoon
Directions

Combine dry ingredients.
Cream butter and sugar.
Add molasses and egg.
Beating until smooth.
Mix in dry ingredients: add water and vinegar; blend well.
Chill dough 2 hours or overnight.
Roll out on lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness and cut with gingerbread man, animal or other fancy cookie cutters.
Place on greased cookie sheets and bake at 350 ° for about 15 minutes.
When cooled, decorate as desired
