German Style Red Cabbage

Ingredients
  Red cabbage 1 Small
  Small onion 1 , chopped
  Sugar 2 Tablespoon
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Bay leaf 1
  Water 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Red wine vinegar 2 Tablespoon
  Apple 1 , peeled and chopped
  Bacon slices 3 , cooked and crumbled
Directions

GETTING READY
1. Start by cutting the cabbage into 6 wedges, remove the core, and place in a large saucepan

MAKING
2. In a saucepan, add onion, sugar, salt, bay leaf, and water, and boil it
3. Cover the saucepan, reduce the heat, and then simmer for 20 minutes
4. Add vinegar and apple in it, cover and cook for around 3 to 4 minutes
5. Remove the cabbage and put it onto a serving splatter with a slotted spoon
6. Strain the pan liquid and keep the onion and apple aside, discard the bay leaf
7. Before serving spoon onion and apple over cabbage, and also sprinkle with the crumbled bacon

SERVING
8. Serve with a sauce of your choice
