Baked Plum Kuchen
|All purpose flour||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Baking powder||2 Teaspoon|
|Milk||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Italian blue plums||1 Pound, halved|
|Nuts||2 Tablespoon, chopped|
|Sugar||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
Sift flour, measure and resift 3 times with baking powder, salt and sugar.
Work in the shortening with a pastry blender or 2 knives until particles are the size of rice grains.
Add the milk all at once, stir quickly only enough to dampen the dry ingredients.
Spread dough in bottom of an 8-inch greased pie pan.
Arrange plums over top.
Sprinkle salt, nuts, and sugar over top, and dot with butter.
Bake in a moderately hot oven (400° F.) for 20 to 25 minutes.
This is also good made with sour red plums, but more sugar will be required.
