German Spice Cakes
|Sugar||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Honey||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Gold medal flour||3 1⁄2 Cup (56 tbs)|
|Baking powder||1 Teaspoon|
|Chopped almonds||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Chopped candied orange peel||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Icing||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
Heat oven to 400°
Mix sugar, honey, and eggs thoroughly.
Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting.
Blend dry ingredients; stir into sugar mixture.
Mix in almonds and orange peel.
Roll 1/4" thick on lightly floured board; cut in fancy shapes.
Place on lightly greased baking sheet, leaving 1/2" between cookies.
Bake 10 to 12 min.
While still hot, brush cookies with Icing.
Store cookies in covered container for 1 week to mellow.
