German Potato Salad

German Potato Salad has a grand taste. German Potato Salad gets its taste from bacon mixed with soup and potatoes. German Potato Salad is inspired by many food chains worldwide.
Ingredients
  Bacon slices 4
  Chopped onion 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Condensed cream of celery soup/Condensed cream of chicken soup 10 1⁄2 Ounce (1 Can)
  Water 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Vinegar 3 Tablespoon
  Sugar 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Pepper 1⁄8 Teaspoon
  Sliced cooked potatoes 4 Cup (64 tbs)
  Chopped parsley 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
Directions

Cook bacon until crisp; remove from skillet; drain and crumble.
Cook onion in bacon drippings until tender.
Blend in soup, water, vinegar, sugar, and pepper.
Heat; stir now and then.
Add potatoes, pars ley, and bacon; simmer 5 minutes.

don't know what this is, but it's not german potato salad. different regions of the country have their own slant on potato salad but having spent my first 20 yrs in that country, i can assure you that no region uses canned soups of any kind in their salad. mostly it's an oil and vinegar dressing with onions, either raw of lightly sauteed with bacon, some add dill pickles and some of the juice others slice raw cucumber and most add some chopped greenery like dill or parsley.

Brigitte is right. This is not "real" German potato salad. What people know in the U.S. as "German potato salad", should be referred to as German-style or German-inspired. Ceam soups and tons of American bacon have no place in "real German potato salad. Although some German recipes for potato salad call for some diced bacon as a garnish, this does not mean fried American bacon strips, as they do not exist in Germany. German bacon is more like Canadian bacon or smoked ham.
