Fruit Nut Torte
|Whole wheat flakes||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
|Sifted flour||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Baking powder||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Nuts||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Finely cut dried fruit||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Brown sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
Crush wheat flakes into fine crumbs; combine with mixed and sifted dry ingredients.
Add nuts and dried fruits.
Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon-colored; beat in sugar.
Stir into flour and nut mixture.
Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry and fold into egg yolk mixture.
Cover the bottom of an 8-inch square cake pan with waxed paper.
Pour batter into pan.
Bake in a slow oven (325°F.) 30 to 35 minutes.
Cut into squares and serve with whipped cream if desired.
