Ingredients
  Shortening 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Packed brown sugar 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Eggs 2
  Soured milk/Buttermilk/water 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), soured
  Gold medal flour 3 1⁄2 Cup (56 tbs)
  Soda 1 Teaspoon
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Broken pecans 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Candied cherries 2 Cup (32 tbs), halved
  Cut up dates 2 Cup (32 tbs)
Directions

Mix shortening, sugar, and eggs well.
Stir in soured milk.
Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting.
Blend dry ingredients; stir in.
Stir in pecans, cherries, and dates.
Chill at least 1 hr.
Heat oven to 400°
