French Fries Casserole

French fries casserole is an oven baked dish containing French fries as the main ingredient. Other ingredients used to prepare the casserole may vary from one recipe to the other, with meat (of any kind) and sauce used in all the variations. The meat may consist of ham, beef, chicken, pork etc. Usually, ground meat is used to prepare the casserole. The sauce used in the casserole may be simply tomato sauce or may consist of meat based sauce. The key ingredient, i.e. French fries can be either bought in frozen form from commercial stores, or can be cooked at home by frying potatoes, cut in the form of long strips, in oil.

There are quite a few variations of French fries casserole, with all of them suggesting the use of varied ingredients, while retaining the key ingredient, i.e. French fries. One of the examples suggests using hamburger, tomato sauce, and frozen French fries as the only ingredients.

 

The casserole is prepared by spreading the mixture of browned hamburger and tomato sauce in an ungreased baking vessel, topping it with frozen French fries, and spreading some tomato sauce over fries. The casserole is baked until golden brown and served warm. A recipe variant of this casserole suggests browning the hamburger with minced dry onions.

 

French Fries Casserole Recipe Variations

A couple of recipe variations are described below:

 

  • Cheeseburger and fries casserole- the recipe for this casserole suggests the use of ground beef, cheese, and French fries as the key ingredients. Ground beef is sautéed with chopped onions; seasoned with pepper, garlic powder, and salt; combined with cheese soup and mushroom soup; and the mix is then transferred to a baking dish. It is topped with frozen French fries, baked until fries turn golden brown, sprinkled with shredded cheese, and baked again for a few minutes before serving.

 

  • French fries, Bolognese sauce and ham casserole- this a standalone meal prepared by spreading Bolognese sauce at the bottom of the casserole saucier, which is layered with some French fries, Bolognese sauce, cooked ham, and cheese. The remaining French fries are placed on top, covered with Bolognese sauce, and the casserole is baked after sprinkling shredded cheese on the top.  The sauce used in this French fries casserole is prepared with a blend of ground beef, onions, red peppers, tomato sauce, pepper, and salt.
