French Onion Soup
|Onions||1⁄2 Pound, sliced|
|Castor sugar||1 Teaspoon|
|Beef stock||1 1⁄2 Pint|
|French bread slice||4|
|Grated gruyere cheese||2 Ounce|
Brown the onions slowly in the butter.
Add the sugar and cook for a few minutes.
Add the flour and cook for 1 minute.
Add the stock and bring to the boil, stirring.
Simmer 20 minutes then add salt and pepper if necessary.
Toast one side of the bread then sprinkle cheese on the untoasted side.
Grill until the cheese has melted.
Put a slice of bread in each soup bowl and pour the soup on top.
