Ham & Turnips Au Gratin
|Turnips||2 Pound, peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick|
|Whipping cream||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Dried savory||1 Teaspoon|
|Cooked ham||1 Cup (16 tbs), cut into julienne strips and divided|
|Shredded swiss cheese||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
|Soft bread crumbs||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
Place turnips and salt in a saucepan; cover with water, and bring to a boil.
Cover and cook over medium-high heat 5 minutes; drain and set aside.
Combine whipping cream, savory, and pepper; set aside.
Place one-third of turnips in a greased 2-quart casserole.
Top with 1/3 cup ham and 1/3 cup whipping cream mixture.
Repeat procedure with remaining turnips, ham, and whipping cream mixture.
Top with cheese and breadcrumbs; dot with butter.
Bake at 375° for 40 to 45 minutes.
