Season to taste with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour the hot soup into earthenware bowls or soup plates. Float a slice of toasted French bread on top, and sprinkle with grated cheese. If desired, put soup bowls on a shallow baking pan and place under the broiler until cheese melts a bit. Or sprinkle cheese on toast and broil on cookie sheet until cheese is golden before placing on soup.
