French Onion Soup
|Butter||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Onions||3 Large, thinly sliced|
|Chicken stock/Beef stock||1 1⁄4 Liter (5 Cups)|
|French bread slices||12|
Melt the butter in a large saucepan.
Add the onions and fry them for about 15 minutes or until they are soft and lightly browned.
Add the stock and salt and pepper to taste.
Simmer very gently for 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
Place the bread slices on a baking sheet and bake until they are evenly browned on both sides.
Pour the soup into a casserole or into 4 individual ovenproof soup bowls.
Float the toast on the top, sprinkle with the cheese and bake in the oven for about 10 minutes or until the cheese is golden brown on top.
