Cheddar Turnips Au Gratin

Ingredients
  Turnips 9 Medium, peeled and diced (about 3 pounds)
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Sugar 1 Teaspoon
  Butter 2 Tablespoon
  All purpose flour 2 Tablespoon
  Milk 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Shredded cheddar cheese 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Seasoned salt 1 Teaspoon
  Pepper 1⁄8 Teaspoon
  Breadcrumbs 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs), dry
Directions

Combine first 3 ingredients in a Dutch oven; add water to cover.
Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat, and simmer 10 to 12 minutes or until turnip is tender.
Drain well, and set aside.
Melt butter in a large heavy saucepan over low heat; add flour, stirring constantly.
Gradually add milk; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until slightly thickened.
Add cheese, seasoned salt, and pepper, stirring until cheese melts.
Remove from heat; stir in turnips.
Spoon turnip mixture into a lightly greased 1 1/2-quart casserole; sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes or until thoroughly heated.
