French Onion Soup

Ingredients
  Onions 4 Medium, sliced
  Butter/Margarine 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Thyme 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  All purpose flour 3 Tablespoon
  Canned condensed beef broth 21 Ounce (2 Cans, 10 1/2 Ounce Each, Undiluted)
  French bread slices 4 , toasted (Thick Slices)
  Shredded swiss cheese 6 Ounce (1 1/2 Cup)
Directions

Microwave: Combine onions, butter, and thyme in 3-quart glass mixing bowl.
Cover tightly with Saran Wrap, turning back edge to vent.
Microcook at 100% power 8 minutes, or until tender, stirring once.
Stir in flour until smooth.
Blend in 2 cups water and beef broth.
Recover, leaving vent, and microcook at 100% power 14 minutes, stirring twice.
Ladle soup over bread into four 2-cup microsafe crocks or bowls.
Sprinkle with cheese.
Microcook at 70% power 3 to 4 minutes, or until cheese melts.
Conventional: Saute onions in butter until onions are transparent, about 10 minutes.
Stir in thyme and flour until blended.
Add beef broth and 2 1/2 cups water.
Stir until smooth.
Heat to boiling.
Reduce heat, cover and simmer 15 minutes.
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Ladle soup over bread in ovenproof crocks or bowls.
Sprinkle with cheese.
Place bowls on cookie sheet and bake 15 minutes, or until cheese is lightly browned.
