Giada At Home

Giada at Home is a daytime cookery show aired on Food Network. It shows the Rome born Italian chef Giada De Laurentiis share her love for food and culinary skills with her viewers. The series depicts the young chef cater to her family members and friends in locations as diverse as the kitchen and a sea beach. Different kinds of Italian meals and Californian foods are prepared according to the recipes which are suitable for small intimate gatherings as well as formal parties.

The show received rave reviews as soon as it debuted on the Food Network on the 18th of October, 2008. It has already been on for three seasons and is well over 92 episodes old now having notched up some impressive ratings along the way.

The show was also nominated for two Daytime Emmy awards in 2009 and four in 2010. The show went on to win the Emmy in the category of Outstanding Directing in a Lifestyle/Culinary Program twice in subsequent years with the Outstanding Culinary Program being awarded to it in 2010 as well.

Origin of The Giada at Home Show

The very first episode of the show aired in October, 2008 was titled as ‘Rock the Block’ where De Laurentiis is seen coordinating a neighborhood block party. The Giada at Home recipes from the initial episode included Chicken and Shrimp with Pancetta Chimichurri, Orecchiette with Greens and Garbanzo Beans with a Ricotta Salata.

Format of Giada at Home Show

The series is basically a traditional show with just a hint of drama in it. While the presenter focuses on the food, the theme of the show is highlighted as well with each episode featuring a host of her friends or family members. Watching football along with a college rival in accompaniment to three Californian style recipes or a nostalgic journey down memory lane mimicking the food of Rome are the highlights of the show. A total of three to four recipes are usually demonstrated in each episode of the show with California based food often taking precedence over the traditional Italian cuisine.

Guests from other walks of life are often invited too. The Food and Fashion episode had Jaimie Geller, Olive U and Calleen Cordero of the fashion world gracing the occasion.

Some of the recently aired most notable recipes demonstrated are:-

  • Around the World- Features three diverse recipes from Trinidad, India and Italy.
  • Big Game- Guests keen on watching the big game are entertained with a playful menu consisting of Chicken Adobo, Chocolate Almond Milkshakes and Walnut and Blue Cheese Grapes.
  • Table For Two- A romantic and intimate dinner menu includes roasted citrus & herb game hen and a crouton salad along with some olives and sun-dried tomatoes.

Giada at Home: Trivia

Giada at Home is not filmed at the chef’s home contrary to the popular belief. The cooking is done at a rented house in Malibu instead.
