Side effects of pineapple are often noticed if the fruit is taken in improper from or it is consumed in excessive quantity. Else, pineapple is a rich source of manganese and Vitamin C which are necessary for sound health. The fruit is eaten in different forms; most of us relish its juice which forms the hotspot of many tourist destination and grocery store. Pineapple juice is relished by most of us but the important point to remember here is that juice of unripe pineapple should be avoided. Many incidences of nausea and vomiting have been reported after having its juice. Sometimes, excessive eating of pineapple causes diarrhea.
Pineapple if eaten in safe quantity is full of health benefits but its overeating can cause several allergic reactions. Most of the allergies appear in the form of swelling of the mouth and cheeks which is often painful. Some of the allergies may also turn life threatening if not treated on time. The sole reason behind these allergies is the bromelain, a naturally occurring enzyme present in pineapple.
One of the serious side effects of pineapple is its ability to promote menstrual flow. Furthermore, bromelain present in the fruit may also cause uterine contraction. This often causes abortion in the pregnant women. So, pregnant women are advised to restrict the intake of pineapple in any form.
Pineapple juice is rich in a component called Ethyl acrylate. It is an aromatic component whose excessive intake results into dermal sensitization.
Eating pineapple in large quantity can cause angular stomatitis in which a person suffers from fissuring and irritation in the corners of lips.
