Most of the nuts viz. peanuts, cashews, almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, pecans, and pistachios are the common source of allergies. Allergies caused by other foods are also severe in reaction but nut allergies are often related to anaphylaxis. It can pose threat to life so one should be very cautious, if he is sensitive to nuts. Such individuals should always check the labels of snacks, desserts, and candies which often include different types of nuts.
Eating nuts is always considered healthy but many a times we eat moldy or rancid nuts that results into gastric upsets. One may also suffer from swelling of lips, tongue, and eye by consuming infected nuts. It may also cause breathing problems so one should avoid eating rancid nuts.
It is one of the common side effects of nuts especially observed after consuming moldy peanuts. Aflatoxin is a carcinogen produced by a mold which often grows on peanuts. Discolored and shriveled peanuts are often infected with the molds. So, one should avoid eating them as they not only taste bad but also exposes our body to symptoms related to aflatoxin infection.
Most of the nuts are rich in oxalate content which often increases the risk of kidney stones when they are eaten in excessive quantity. Furthermore, kidney stone patients are advised to restrict the intake of many foods rich in oxalate including nuts to prevent the formation of calcium oxalate stones in the kidney.
