Stegt Flæsk

Stegt Flæsk is a popular fried bacon dish from Denmark. This dish is also known as “Pork Strips” or “Crisp Fried Pork Slices”. Generally the pork belly or breast part of the pig is used for making this bacon dish. This dish is usually accompanied by boiled potatoes and parsley sauce (med persillesovs). It is also served with apple compote. Considered one of the most popular foodstuffs of Denmark, this dish is also known as “a dish of pork fat”.

 

 

History of Stegt Flaesk Med Persillesovs

Danish people are known to be much fond of their pork dishes and Stegt Flæsk is one such dish. In fact, the name is a derivation of the fact that pork cut, known as ‘flæsk’, is fried, which is known as ‘stegt’ in Danish. Potatoes are a common sight in the Scandinavian countries and that is the reason it accompanies most dishes of this region, including this fried bacon dish from Denmark.

 

 

Preparation of the Crisp Fried Pork Strips

Traditionally, this dish is prepared with the cuts of pork from the breast and belly regions of the pig. Around ½ inch thick strips are cut and then deep fried. Boiled potatoes are cut into halves and served with parsley sauce with the fried bacon strips.
