Kapusta is a famous Polish cuisine, which is traditionally prepared by adding cabbage, sauerkraut, onions, mushrooms, dry thyme, sugar, salt and pepper for seasoning. For preparing this dish, the initial step is to preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit so that after the delicacy is fully prepared it can be baked for better flavoring and crispness. In a saucepan, butter is heated in a large shallow pan over medium flame and the onions and mushrooms are sautéed until they become soft in texture without turning golden brown in color.

The chopped cabbage is added and boiled over high flame for about 10 minutes and in the meanwhile, the baking dish is greased with a little melted butter. In a large bowl, all the ingredients such as sautéed onions and mushroom, boiled cabbage, sauerkraut, thyme, sugar, salt and pepper are combined and are incorporated thoroughly. Then the Kapusta with the combined ingredients are poured over the greased baking dish and only two tablespoons of butter is topped and the dish is covered for baking. The prepared dish is baked for about an hour and should be stirred occasionally.

The Kapusta is served as a side dish or as a main course and is used in preparing different salads and soup. It is served as main entrée for the vegetarians and can be stored for a month but it should be kept in the refrigerator.
