Dutch Apple Pie

Dutch Apple Pie is just one version of apple pie and as the name predicts it is common among the Dutch aborigine. Dutch apple pie is a classic example of a sweet yet crispy, filled dessert. Slices from fresh culinary apples mixed with sugar (normal and brown) and cinnamon for flavoring makes a finger licking Dutch pie filling.

History of Dutch Apple Pie:

Dutch Apple Pie Recipe, although popular in Netherlands, over the years it has grown in popularity in other parts of the world including parts of America and Europe. The mode of preparation varies from one place to the other; there's a specific cooking style in America (American apple pie) as well as in Europe (Swedish apple pie).

Ingredients in making Dutch Apple Pie:

The basic ingredients of a Dutch Apple Pie are flour, sugar, apple (fresh or canned), cinnamon and raisin. The Dutch specialty lies in its bottom and side pie crust, unlike other versions where the crust either goes in the bottom or top-and-bottom of the apple pie. There's hardly any taste difference while using canned apples, incase fresh apples aren't easily available.

Dutch Apple Pie Toppings:

Dutch apple pie is mostly served with a dollop of whipped cream, if its served cold; or some vanilla ice cream, when the pie is served hot. Depending on the serving time, Dutch Apple Pie is served both hot and cold, but the warmer version is preferred more. These toppings can be easily substituted by dash of brown sugar and cinnamon sprinkled over the baked Dutch apple pie. Dutch Apple Pie is often served as a perfect dessert on occasions like Easter celebration, Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, family gathering etc.
