Ingredients
  Eggs 3 , beaten
  Sugar 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Salt 3⁄4 Teaspoon
  Shortening 3 Tablespoon, melted
  Vanilla 1 Tablespoon
  Rolled oats 3 Cup (48 tbs)
Directions

Beat eggs, add sugar gradually and beat well with each addition.
Add salt, melted shortening, vanilla and then the rolled oats.
Drop from teaspoon onto a greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 325°F. 20 minutes.
Remove while still warm.

Not sure what's wrong with this recipe- but I followed exactly as-is and they did NOT work out. Without any flour, the butter and eggs just ran right out of the cookies and off the pan...

These are a family favorite, but the recipe at this site has 3 times the amounts in the Fanny Farmer cookbook. From experience, we wrote a note next to the recipe saying "do not double." You may have better luck if you use a smaller amount. Make sure you use rolled oats, not quick oats, and use parchment paper. If you use a greased cookie sheet, there's a narrow window of time in which they can be removed from pan successfully. We think they're worth it.
