Swiss Steak With Mushrooms

This swiss steak recipe is a flavorful recipe prepared with round steak. Seasoned with salt and pepper with flour to coat, the swiis steak is browned and then cooked with onions, green peppers, tomatoes and mushrooms. Cooked slowly, it is a tender steak that can be served with rice.
  Round steak 2 Pound
  Flour 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Salt 3⁄4 Teaspoon
  Pepper 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Shortening 2 Teaspoon
  Onion 1 Medium
  Green pepper 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs), chopped
  Tomatoes 1 Can (10 oz)
  Canned mushrooms 8 Ounce

Cut steak into serving pieces; pound in flour, salt and pepper.
Brown in shortening.
Add onion and green pepper and tomatoes; simmer 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours.
Add mushrooms during last hour of cooking.
If more liquid is needed add tomato juice.
