Ingredients
  Plain flour 8 Ounce
  Yeast 1⁄2 Ounce
  Warm milk 1⁄2 Pint
  Apple 1 , chopped
  Lemon juice 1 Teaspoon
  Salt 1 Pinch
  Chopped candied peel 1 Ounce
  Raisins 2 Ounce
  Currants 2 Ounce
  Fat/Oil 1 Cup (16 tbs) (For deep frying)
Directions

Cream the yeast with a little milk.
Mix all dry ingredients and mix to a stiff dough with yeast, milk and lemon juice.
Knead well for at least 10 minutes.
Cover and leave to rise for 1 hour.
Have ready a pan of deep frying fat or oil.
Drop walnut size pieces of dough into hot fat and cook until light brown.
Drain and sprinkle with sugar
