Danish Goulash

Ingredients
  Round beef 1 Pound (3/4 Inch Thick)
  Salad oil/Fat 3 Tablespoon
  Pepper To Taste
  Thinly sliced onions 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Salt 2 Teaspoon
  Cold water 40 Tablespoon
  Brown sugar 1 Tablespoon
  Bay leaves 3 Small
  Flour 3 Tablespoon
  Mashed potatoes a la phyfe 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Directions

Cut the beef into 1/4" cubes; brown in the hot fat or salad oil with speck pepper.
Add onions, and stir until lightly browned.
Add the salt, 2 1/2 c cold water, sugar and bay leaves.
Cover; simmer 1 1/4 hrs., or until tender.
Remove bay leaves; then stir in flour and 5 tablesp water, blended together.
Cook until smooth and thickened.
Serve with or over Mashed Potatoes a la Phyfe.
