Spicy Shoofly Pie

Ingredients
  Pastry 1 , unbaked (For 1 Crust 9 Inch Pie)
  For crumb mixture  
  All purpose flour 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Firmly packed brown sugar 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Ground pepper 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Ground ginger 1⁄8 Teaspoon
  Ground nutmeg 1⁄8 Teaspoon
  Ground cloves 1⁄8 Teaspoon
  Shortening 2 Tablespoon
For liquid mixture
  Molasses 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Egg 1 , well beaten
  Baking soda 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Hot water 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
Directions

Line pie pan with pastry.
Combine ingredients for crumb mixture, using hands to blend.
Combine ingredients for liquid and pour into pastry.
Top with crumbs.
Bake in preheated hot oven (400°F.) for 10 minutes.
Reduce heat to slow (325°F.); continue baking for about 30 minutes, or until firm.
