Spicy Swiss Steak
|Salt||1 1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Ground allspice||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Beef round steak||2 Pound (about 1 inch thick)|
|All purpose flour||1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs)|
|Shortening/Salad oil||3 Tablespoon|
|Onion||1 Medium, minced|
|Peeled chopped tomatoes||3 Cup (48 tbs) (fresh or canned)|
Rub salt, allspice, and pepper well into steak.
Dredge meat with flour.
Pound in flour with edge of a plate.
Heat shortening in heavy casserole.
Brown meat quickly in hot fat on both sides.
Add onion and tomatoes.
Cover and bake in preheated moderate oven (350Â°F.) for about 1 1/2 hours, or until meat is tender.
Check occasionally for moisture.
If necessary add a little hot water, bouillon, or more tomato to prevent sticking.
