Beat the egg in a small bowl with a whisk or fork- It should just become frothy.
Stir in the salt.
While you are beating the egg, you can put the pan on to gentle heat.
Drop in the butter.
As soon as the butter starts melting, pour the egg into the pan.
With the spoon, stir the egg around continuously on gentle heat till it is set.
Serve on top of a toast or spoon onto a plate.
Sprinkle with pepper before you serve.
