The serving sizes of pyramid measures grains in ounces. The recommendation of grains for adult men aged 19 to 50 is 7 to 8 ounces. At least half of the 8 ounces should come from whole grains.

The food pyramid serving sizes of vegetable are similar to fruits; vegetables in any form like raw, fresh, cooked, canned, and dried are part of the food group. Men in the age group of 19 to 50 are recommended to eat 3 cups and women under similar age group can have 2 and 1/2 cups.




The diary products come under this food group. Cheese, milk, yogurt are some of the examples in this category. Both women and men are recommended to drink three cups of milk.


Meat and beans


Food items that are made using nuts, eggs, fish, poultry, meat, peas ,and dry beans are the members of this food group.


The serving sizes of pyramid for meat and beans are measured by ounces. Men are recommended to have 6 to 6 1/2 whereas women can have  5  to 5 and 1/2.




Food pyramid serving sizes for oils are usually measured using teaspoons. Both men and women under the age group of 19 to 50 are recommended to include 5 to 7 teaspoons of oil every day.


Food pyramid serving sizes are considered as gold standard giving figures of the daily intake of carbs, sugar, fat, protein, and cholesterol. Food pyramid serves as an educational tool and helps to opt for the right foods in right quantities.
