How To Eat Khao Phat Kai
Khao means rice and Phat means stir fried in Thai. Generally Thai fried rice can be made with chicken, beef, shrimp, pork, crab or coconut or pineapple and vegetarian ingredients such as onions and tomato. But the Khao Phat Kai or Thai Chicken Fried rice have small piece of chicken bits along with vegetables and stir-fried Thai Jasmine rice that is seasoned with salt, pepper, sugar, soy or fish sauce. When eating Khao Phat Kai you might also get to eat some green onions, coriander, and fried garlic that is added to the fried rice to spice it up!
The Khao Phat Kai can be had both for lunch and supper and is usually served on a plate over a bed of lettuce.
The Khao Phat Kai is usually a one plate dish and is traditionally served with spring onions, cucumber slices, tomato slices, red pepper strips, chopped coriander, lime and sprigs of green onion. A small bowl of Thai chili sauce will be a perfect accompaniment to this dish.
Sometimes you can also eat the Khao Phat Kai topped with a fried egg on top and then it is called Khao pad kai daow.
