1. Wash and core the apples.
2. Leave a 1/4-in. core at the bottom of the apple which will hold in the filling and prevent it from falling out.
3. Preheat the oven to 425°F, 220°C, Gas Mark 7,
4. Fill the apples with the sugar and cover it with a pat of butter
5. Place the apple in a square of pastry and seal it up.
6. Bake in a hot oven for 25 minutes.
