Saute hamburger in a tablespoon bacon dripping, using a deep saucepan or Dutch oven.
Stir until pinkness disappears, then drain off the fat and add onions, ketchup, barbecue sauce and water.
Simmer covered for 10 minutes.
Season to taste.
Stir enough water or milk into the biscuit mix to make a dumpling like drop batter and spoon into the hot meat mixture.
Cover and steam 10 to 12 minutes or until dumplings are cooked.
