Ogopogo Apple Dumplings

Ingredients
  Sugar 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Water 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Ground cinnamon 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Butter 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Apples 6
  All purpose flour 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Baking powder 2 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Shortening 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Milk 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
Directions

Combine sugar, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a saucepan.
Heat until sugar is dissolved.
Add butter and stir until melted.
Pare apples; core and cut into eighths.
Mix flour, baking powder, and salt; cut in shortening.
Add milk and stir until a dough is formed.
Roll out dough 1/4 inch thick on a lightly floured surface and cut into 5-inch squares.
Arrange 4 or 5 pieces of apple on each square; sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Dot with butter.
Fold corners to center and pinch edges together.
Place dumplings 1 inch apart in a greased baking dish.
Pour syrup over them.
Bake at 325°F about 45 minutes.
