Moscow Mule

The Moscow Mule is a buck or mule cocktail which is mostly made with Vodka, Ginger Beer and Lime. It is a Vodka based cocktail and very popular during both the Summer and the Winter seasons. The warm ginger taste makes it suitable for the Winter whereas Lime makes it a refreshing summer drink. The cocktail is widely considered the drink which started the Vodka trend in the US which began in the 1940s.

Origin of the Moscow Mule Cocktail

The cocktail was concocted in 1941 by John G. Martin and John "Jack" Morgan. While Martin was the owner of G.F. Heublein Brothers, In., a popular spirits and food distributor of the East Coast, Morgan was the President of Cock 'n' Bull Productions, the producer of Ginger Beer. Morgan was also the proprietor of Cock 'n' Bull Tavern, a popular bar on LA's Sunset Boulevard which was frequented by celebrities.

Morgan's beer was mixed with Smirnoff Vodka and lime and thus was born the Moscow Mile. Specially engraved copper mugs were ordered for the drink to be served in. With a few months, Moscow Mule became one of the most talked about and popular cocktails and it has managed to remain so over the years.
