Spice Bags For Warm Winter Drinks
|Cinnamon stick||8 , crushed|
|Dried orange peel/0.25 cup 16 tablespoon ground orange peel||1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs), minced|
|Nutmeg||2 , crushed|
|Allspice berries||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Whole cloves||1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs)|
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl, tie in sachets of 1 tablespoon each in a double thickness of cheesecloth, and transfer to an airtight container.
One sachet of the mixture will flavor 1 quart of cider or wine.
Simply simmer the chosen beverage with a sachet for 20 minutes, ladle into mugs and garnish appropriately with a stick of cinnamon, fresh orange or lemon peel, and perhaps a sprinkling of additional spirits in the case of a wine punch, sherry; for cider, cognac or rum would be a ro bust flavoring.
