Grand Mere Cooked Dressing

Ingredients
  Butter 50 Milliliter (3 Tablespoons)
  All purpose flour 30 Milliliter (2 Tablespoon)
  Salt 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Dry mustard 1 Teaspoon
  Sugar 15 Milliliter (1 Tablespoon)
  Mace/Nutmeg 1 Dash (Sprinkling Of)
  Milk/Cream 310 Milliliter (1 1/4 Cups)
  Egg yolks 2
  Cider vinegar 80 Milliliter (No Other Type Of Vinegar, 1/3 Cup)
  Onion 1⁄2 , peeled
Directions

Place the butter in a heavy metal saucepan and melt it.
Mix in the flour, salt, mustard, sugar and mace or nutmeg.
Blend completely in the butter and add 1 cup (250 mL) of the milk.
Cook over low heat, stirring most of the time, until mixture is slightly thickened and creamy.
Beat the remaining 1/4 cup (60 mL) milk with the egg yolks.
Stir into the hot mixture beating well as they are added.
When well mixed, add the remaining ingredients.
Simmer over low heat, until thickened.
When cooled, remove the onion slice.
Refrigerate.
