|Milk||1 Cup (16 tbs), scalded|
|Sugar||2⁄3 Cup (10.67 tbs)|
|Lukewarm water||2 Tablespoon|
|Flour||5 Cup (80 tbs)|
|Eggs||2 , beaten|
Mix the milk, sugar, shortening and salt in a bowl and cool to lukewarm.
Dissolve yeast in water, then stir into milk mixture.
Add 2 cups flour and mix well.
Let rise in a warm place until light.
Add the eggs, nutmeg and enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
Cover and let rise until doubled in bulk.
Knead on a floured surface until smooth.
Roll out 1/2 inch thick and cut with a doughnut cutter.
Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled in bulk.
Fry in deep fat at 370 degrees until puffy and brown.
Turn and fry on other side.
Drain on absorbent paper and sprinkle with powdered sugar while warm.
