Meat Dip

Meat dip is a dipping sauce made with meat such as ground beef or seafood along with other ingredients like cheese, sour cream, chilies, tomatoes, etc. The dip is served as a condiment with foods like chips and crackers in cuisines such as the Mexican cuisine.

 

Meat Dip Preparation Overview

Ingredients: Ingredients suggested by the meat dip recipe include meat (which may be ground beef, crab meat, lobster, etc.), sausage, mushroom soup, chopped onions, garlic salt, tomatoes, chilies and cheese.

Method of Preparation: The meat is first browned, after which is mixed with the rest of the ingredients. The mixture may be heated till the cheese melts. The ingredients can also be processed in a food processor as per some recipes.

Meat Dip Recipe Variations

  • Crab Dip: It is made with canned crab meat, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce, cayenne pepper, pressed garlic, mixed spices and salt. The ingredients are mixed together to make the dip which is refrigerated for a few hours before serving. Various versions of the crab meat dip can be prepared by use of additional ingredients such as artichokes or spinach. It is served with chips and crackers.
  • Crab and Shrimp Dip: It is made by mixing together canned crab, broken canned shrimp, celery, onion, sour cream, cream cheese and cocktail sauce.
  • Lobster Dip: The dip is made with chopped lobster meat, chopped onion and green pepper, Velveeta cheese (a processed cheese), Worcestershire sauce, sherry, pepper, catsup and butter. Onion and green pepper are cooked in butter till they are tender, after which the rest of the ingredients are mixed in and heated till the cheese melts.
  • Mexican Bean Dip: It is made by layering refried beans, fried hamburger and taco seasoning mix, sour cream and mayonnaise, picante sauce and taco cheese in a casserole dish, and then baking.
  • Seafood Dip: This dip is made with canned crab, shrimp and minced clams, sour cream, mayonnaise, dill weed, parsley, minced onions and seasonings. The ingredients are mixed together and refrigerated overnight.
  • Turkey Dip: This meat dip is made with ground white turkey (without skin), taco seasoning, chopped onion, chopped green chilies, chopped tomato and grated Cheddar cheese. The turkey is cooked with onions after which excess fat is drained off, and it is then mixed with the rest of the ingredients. It is served with tortilla chips.
  • Bacon Bean Dip: The dip is made by sautéing bacon till crisp, and then sautéing onion and garlic in olive oil till translucent. The meat, onions and garlic are mixed with minced cilantro leaves, taco seasoning, canned black beans (drained), lemon juice and additional seasonings of salt, pepper, cayenne, cumin, onion powder, etc. The mixture may be processed lightly in a processor if one prefers a smoother consistency. The meat dip is garnished with cilantro sprigs or green onion and a dollop of sour cream, and served with chips or tacos.
