Ham Dip

Ham dip is a dipping sauce or spread made with cooked ham, and served popularly with chips and crackers. Ham is often coupled with cream cheese or sour cream and several other ingredients to prepare a flavorful dip, which can be either served hot or cold. There are a few variations of the dip, with most of the variations making use of country ham or deviled ham to prepare the dip, with the former referring to salty cured ham associated with southern US, and the latter referring to canned meat spread from William Underwood Company, based in America. Further, mustard is also used in most of the recipes to give a special accent to the dip. Chopped, grated, or minced onions are often used to complement the flavor of ham in the dip.

Ham Dip Recipe Variations

The most popular variations of ham based dip or spread are discussed here:

  • Sour cream ham dip- the sour cream ham dip recipe suggests mixing together ground ham, sour cream, sherry, mustard (already prepared), and grated onions. This dip is served chilled.

  • Country ham dip- the recipe for this dip suggests placing a mix of softened cream cheese, sour cream, chopped and cooked country ham, minced onions, and garlic powder in a baking dish, topping it with a sautéed mix of butter, Worcestershire sauce, and pecans, and then baking it in an oven for around twenty minutes. This dip can either be served cold or hot with crackers.

  • Deviled ham dip- this dip is prepared by blending together softened cream cheese and all the contents of canned deviled ham until a creamy and smooth texture is attained. The dip is garnished with parsley and olives before serving. Though this dip is a standalone dish, it is quite scrumptious when consumed after stuffing it into celery.

  • Ham sandwich spread- the recipe suggests combining ground ham with a mix of finely chopped celery and onions, followed by adding mustard, mayonnaise, pickle relish, pepper, and salt. It goes perfectly well with bread and crackers.
